Germany qualified for Euro 2008 from Group D.

European Championships
Germany have made nine previous appearances at the European
Championship Finals (five of these as West Germany): 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992,
1996, 2000 and 2004.
Germany have won the trophy three times (Belgium 1972, Italy 1980 and
England 1996) and came home as runners-up twice (Yugoslavia 1976 and Sweden 1992).
World Cup Appearences
Germany have made 16 World Cup Finals appearances:
1934, 1938, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.
Germany (West Germany from 1950 to 1990) won the World Cup in Switzerland 1954, West Germany 1974 and Italy 1990; were runners-up in England 1966, Spain 1982, France 1998 and Korea-Japan 2002; came
third in Italy 1934, Mexico 1970 and Germany 2006; and finished
fourth in Sweden 1958.

Quarter-finals
Group winners stay in the country they played their group games in,
while teams finishing second will be travelling across the border.
The runner up of Group A will have to travel from Switzerland to
Vienna for the quarter-final and (if they win that) back to Basel for the semi-final.;
then back to Vienna for the final.
