Match Preview

Colombia and Uruguay have only met once at the World Cup Finals.

Although Uruguay won the Arica group game (2:1) at Chile 1962, both teams went out to USSR and Yugoslavia.

The Match

Uruguay were without Luis Suarez, who left the World Cup stage in disgrace; expelled from football-related actives for months, by FIFA.

Goalscorers 1:0
AS Monaco midfielder, James Rodriguez put Colombia ahead in the 28th minute; after controlling the ball on his chest and volleying it under the crossbar.

Goalscorers 2:0
Five minutes after the restart, James Rodriguez doubled Colombia's lead; after starting a move and then ending it when Juan Cuadrado headed over to him from the far post.

Classic South American football worthy of the World Cup stage; just a shame that they will meet Brazil in a quarter-final match and not in the Maracana on July 13th.
