Five times World Cup Champions, Brazil, get a
second chance to hold the prestigious World Cup Finals; 64 years after they last hosted
the tournament.
It was already known that the 2014 World Cup Finals would be
returning to South America and, being CONMEBOL's only candidate put forward to host the
tournament, the announcement that Brazil would host the 2014 World Cup Finals (on Tuesday,
October 30th 2007) was merely a formality.
This was the main reason that the FIFA President, Sepp Blatter,
announced the previous day that there would be an end to the
World Cup rotation policy, from continent to continent (introduced in the year 2000);
as of 2018.
While Pelé was not in the Brazilian delegation in Zurich, they were
represented by Romario and Dunga; players of the modern generation.
Sadly, the first question from the gathered journalists (as with when
South Africa won the bid for the 2010 World Cup
Finals) was about violence.
Unfortunately, there's violence everywhere in the world and we should
be concentrating on the football.
Brazil had 18 stadiums in the presentation and that number will
eventually be cut down to ten.
As of July, 2008 the stadiums will start to be selected and presented
to the FIFA Executive Committee for approval in December.
