World Cup 2006 -- European Qualification
On Saturday, 3rd September 2005 Ukraine
became the first team from Europe to join Germany. This will be Ukraine's first appearance
in the World Cup Finals.
Germany -- Qualify as hosts.
The remaining 50 European nations were divided into eight groups.
The winners of each group automatically
qualify for the finals, along with the top two runners-up with the best records against
the top six teams in their group.
The remaining six runners-up face a two-legged
play-off to qualify.
Wednesday, 7th September 2005:
Czech Republic vs Armenia (4-1)
Finland vs FYR Macedonia (5-1)
Holland vs Andorra (4-0)
Saturday, 8th October 2005:
Czech Republic vs Holland (0-2)
Finland vs Romania (0-1)
Holland
qualify for the 2006 World Cup
Finals in Germany. The win against Czech Republic means both Poland and England
qualify (even though the group 6 winner is not yet decided).
Wednesday, 12th October 2005:
Andorra vs Armenia (0-3)
Finland vs Czech Republic (0-3)

ticket with a 2-1 victory against one of Europe's minnows.
